In this week’s “Meet the Agent” profile, get to know Nancy Payne of Century 21 M&M. In addition to her skills as an agent, Nancy is a former Marine and has a hidden talent: hamburger flipper!

C21: What attracted you to real estate?

NP: When I retired from the Marine Corps I still had a small child at home and I wanted to do all the things stay-at-home moms get to do. Real estate afforded me that opportunity, with flexible hours.  Real estate was a great fit. I understood customer and community service and was in control of my destiny, unlimited income potential and was able to be my own boss.  I was able to build a business and enjoy my family.

C21: Do you remember your first listing?

NP: Yes. It was a small mobile home in Greenoaks Mobile Home Park, that I actually shared with the broker.  The first of many mobile homes, I became quite the expert before getting my first single family, residential home.  My first single family home was on Coronado in Tracy, CA.  The parents moved into assisted care and the home was sold by the children.  I’ve remained friends with both.

C21: What’s your one tip for hosting a memorable open house?

NP: A shiny and sparkling home, with candles scattered throughout. I also serve cold water and snacks (usually cookies).  In the summer, buyers enjoy the reprieve from the heat.

C21: Do you own a home? If so, what made you fall in love with it?

NP: We’ve been in our home about eight years. I’m originally from Louisiana and it has a traditional look with a brick front that reminds me of home.   It has a downstairs master bedroom with a courtyard that my husband and I love.  And lastly it has plenty of room for everyone.

C21: When you’re not at work, how do you take advantage of the beautiful, California weather?

NP: We have three grandchildren so we spend a lot of time at the baseball, soccer and football fields.  We also enjoy swimming and the outdoors.

C21: What is the one local event you look forward to most every year?

NP: I’ve hosted the Hamburger Stand at St. Bernard’s Fall Festival for the past 17 years.  I look forward to that every September.

C21: Our company mantra is “Smarter.Bolder.Faster” How do you exemplify this in your day-to-day work?

NP: Through our ongoing training and 21 online I am able to work Smarter and ultimately Faster.  All of the tools and resources make me more confident to be Bolder, step out of the box and try something new.  As the sales manager of the Tracy, CA office I am in a position to pass on all of the tools and knowledge to ensure all of my agents work, Smarter, Bolder and Faster.

C21: Continue the conversation with Nancy via her website, Facebook and Twitter.
