Climb For Kids: Greetings From Ground Level

A letter from President and CEO, Rick Davidson, as he prepares to head home after a successful adventure on the Climb for Kids:

Greetings from ground level!

Weather had us pinned down for the past 24 hours. We were able to get air lifted out in 3 separate small planes to Talkeetna.We had to leave over 500 pounds of gear on the glacier (tents, ice axes, stoves, climbing ropes, etc.) Our lead guide (Craig Van Hoy with Go-Trek Mountain Guides) will have to wait until the planes can get back to our expedition base camp later this week to retrieve our gear.

Everyone is safe and sound. The climb was an incredible success – we made 4 summits totaling over 31,000 feet of elevation.

We all missed our go-home flights and will make other arrangements to get us home.The team arrived with a common goal: to raise funds and awareness for Easter Seals and Big Brothers Big Sisters and to experience the Alaska Range as mountaineers. We left base camp with our goals being met, but we also left with much more:  we built lasting friendships and a new level of respect for one another as professionals and as mountaineers.
